Three police officers shot, one dead in altercation in Missouri

Three police officers in Joplin, Missouri, were shot Tuesday during a pursuit of a suspect, and one officer died, authorities said.

One officer is in critical condition and the other is in serious but stable condition, Assistant Chief Brian Lewis said in a news release.

The suspect is also dead, police said.

The series of events began when officers responded Tuesday afternoon to a disturbance call and found the suspect.

“As officers attempted to take the subject into custody, he shot two officers and fled the scene in a stolen patrol car,” Lewis said.

The suspect crashed the vehicle and fired at offers, striking one. The suspect was shot when officers returned fire, police said.

The three wounded officers were hospitalized and one is dead, the news release said.

Authorities are not releasing any names.

Missouri Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe said in a tweet he was “praying for the officers involved in the shooting today in Joplin, as well as for their families and fellow officers.”

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, a non-profit dedicated to memorializing fallen officers, 66 officers have died in the line of duty this year, including nine by gunfire, before Tuesday.

Bodycam Shows Suspect Shot In Head After Grabbing Gun During Fight With Deputies At Walmart

Lake Forest, CA – The Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) released bodycam and security footage that captured the moment when an armed shoplifter was shot in the head while brawling with deputies at a Walmart store in January.

The incident occurred at the Foothill Ranch Walmart Supercenter located at 26502 Towne Centre Drive shortly before 9:40 p.m. on Jan 18, OCSD Sergeant Ryan Anderson said in the 21-minute video briefing.

A store loss prevention employee called the sheriff’s office dispatch center and reported that two suspects were walking around the store with a “suspected fraudulent receipt” on a phone and that they had “high-priced items” in a cart, Sgt. Anderson said.

“It’s a fraudulent receipt,” the caller said in the dispatch recording. “I clearly saw him in the electronics department grabbing high-ticket merchandise. They’re going to walk out soon.”

The employee provided the dispatcher with descriptions of both suspects and deputies were dispatched to the scene.

“Don’t reach for it,” the deputy warned him as he tried to pull the suspect’s hand away from the blade. “Get your f—king hand off the knife.”

Hero Down: Massachusetts State Police Trooper Tamar Bucci Dies After Being Struck By Tanker Truck

Stoneham, MA – Massachusetts State Police (MSP) Trooper Tamar Bucci died in the line of duty Thursday night after a tanker truck crashed into her patrol vehicle as she was trying to help a disabled motorist.

The 34-year-old trooper was attempting to pull onto the shoulder of northbound Interstate 93 near exit 27 just before midnight on March 3 when a tanker truck filled with approximately 10,000 gallons of gasoline crashed into her patrol vehicle, MSP Colonel Christopher Mason said, according to WCVB.

Trooper Bucci had the blue lights of her patrol car activated and was trying to assist a disabled motorist when she was hit.

The tanker truck’s momentum shoved her cruiser off the roadway, Col. Mason said.

Two Good Samaritans jumped out of their vehicles to help pull the gravely-injured trooper from her mangled patrol vehicle.

A Stoneham police officer then performed CPR prior to Trooper Bucci being rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, WCVB reported.

The female driver of the disabled vehicle was transported to the hospital to be evaluated.

2 Chicago police officers shot on the West Side – Chicago …

“I got shot in the head, I got shot in the head,” one of the wounded officers radioed.

Two Chicago police officers were shot early Friday on the West Side, according to authorities said.

One of the officers was grazed in the face and the other wounded in the leg, police said. They went to Mount Sinai Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. at the Original Maxwell Street hot dog stand in the 3800 block of West Harrison Street. A man waiting to be served dropped his gun in front of the officers, picked it up and started firing at them, according to Police Supt. David Brown.

“I got shot in the head, I got shot in the head,” one of the wounded officers radioed. “Dropped an extended clip right in front of me, picked it up, shot me, graze wound in the right side of my head and my partner was shot in the leg.”

The partner was still in the police car when he was hit, Brown said.

Responding officers chased a suspect through alleys and took someone in custody in the 100 block of South Pulaski Road, about half a mile away, according to police at the scene. A gun was reportedly found nearby.
