Humble, TX – A Harris County third grader suffering from cerebral palsy was bullied and knocked from his wheelchair after he dressed up as a police officer for career day at school.
Eight-year-old Michael Martinez remained calm after the older students assaulted him in the crowded hallway, KTRK reported.
Other classmates helped the disabled child back into his wheelchair.
San Antonio, TX – A Bexar County sheriff’s deputy was shot on Tuesday afternoon as deputies attempted to serve a felony search warrant on the far West Side of the city.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of April 5 as Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies were serving the warrant in the 200-block of Demya Drive, just west of Loop 410, KSAT reported.
The sheriff’s department said that wounded deputy was immediately transported to University Hospital for treatment.
Officials have not released the name of the wounded hero, nor have they provided any information about the deputy’s medical condition, WSAT reported.
The suspect is not in custody and law enforcement officers have descended on the area to search for the gunman.
The sheriff’s department asked residents of the area to stay in their homes and call 911 if they see anything suspicious, WSAT reported.
At least three people were killed in a shooting and a subsequent chase by police officers Saturday at a beachside restaurant in Mexico’s Pacific coast resort of Acapulco. The prosecutor’s office in Guerrero state, where Acapulco is located, said two gunmen approached and killed two men at a beachside restaurant. Police then chased the attackers down the beach as they were “escaping towards the sea,” officials said. One was an American from Chicago area.
Houston, TX – An off-duty Harris County deputy was fatally shot in the parking lot of a grocery store on Thursday night as he was confronting three suspects who were allegedly trying to steal the catalytic converter from his vehicle, according to investigators.
Deputy Almendarez was fatally wounded during the ensuing exchange of fire, KHOU reported.
He shot two of his attackers, but police are still searching for the third.
Las Vegas, NV – Edmonds Police Department (EPD) Officer Tyler Steffins died on March 26 after being stabbed during an argument, according to police.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) homicide detectives said the 33-year-old off-duty officer was on a pedestrian bridge near the 3900-block of South Las Vegas Boulevard between the MGM and New York-New York casinos when he got into an argument with 58-year-old Freddy Allen at approximately 9:40 p.m., KIRO reported.
The confrontation possibly involved a disagreement about a dog, police said.
Bystanders flagged over two LVMPD officers who were out on foot patrol and told them about the argument, KIRO reported.
The officers were en route to the scene when a witness told them someone had been stabbed.
They arrived to find Allen holding a knife, according to police.
Allen took off running and tossed the six-inch hunting knife into the Statue of Liberty fountain, but was quickly apprehended, KIRO reported.
Officer Steffins was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
