A West Virginia State Police officer was killed while responding to a complaint of a shooting on Friday.
Sgt. Cory Maynard as well as two other officers initially responded to a complaint of a shooting at a home on Friday in Mingo County, West Virginia when Timothy Kennedy, 29, allegedly began firing his weapon. Maynard was shot and taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
He fled the scene after the alleged incident, triggering what turned into an hours-long manhunt which ended up postponing a graduation ceremony on Friday night, with residents in the area being told to stay inside.
Kennedy was taken into custody on Friday night in a stolen vehicle which was stopped at a law enforcement checkpoint.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice has said that a state trooper was fatally shot in Mingo County Friday and multiple law enforcement agencies have joined a widespread search of the Beech Creek area to look for the suspect who is at large.
Sgt. Cory Maynard was fatally wounded in an exchange of gunfire near Matewan, Justice said.
“The brave men and women of law enforcement, and all first responders who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe, are an inspiration to us all,” Justice said in aย statement.

A Madison police officer is dead after a domestic dispute in the Crossgates neighborhood of Brandon led to a hostage standoff Thursday morning, officials said. The suspect was shot dead and a Brandon police officer also was shot and injured in the incident.

Officer shot in hand and will be OK, hopefully the perp won’t
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A man was fatally shot by Philadelphia police after he shot an officer in the hand during a barricade situation in Kensington Wednesday night, authorities said.
The incident happened on the 2800 block of Ruth Street just after 7:15 p.m.
The Philadelphia police officer was placed in stable condition at Temple University Hospital before being discharged hours later, according to police.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said the officer is a 27-year-old who has been on the force for about a year. He’s assigned to the 24th Police District and has a wife, she added.
Outlaw said police responded to the 2800 block of Ruth Street for reports of gunshots. Once they arrived, they found shell casings and heard a commotion coming from inside a home.
Outlaw said officers made entry inside the property as people were coming out of the house. She said the people exiting the property pointed in a direction for officers to “inquire,” but they weren’t sure why.
As police were attempting to clear the house, Outlaw said they found a man in a crawlspace.
Outlaw said police ordered the man to leave, but he refused. She said there was a “struggle” where a taser was used, but it was ineffective.
The man attempted to take the taser, Outlaw said, and officers then heard a shot.
The Philly officer who was shot then fell to the ground with a gunshot wound to his hand, Outlaw said.ย
Three police officers, including one sergeant, fired their weapons and struck the man after the struggle, Outlaw said. It’s unclear how many times the man was hit. The two other officers weren’t injured.

Shootings across the U.S. left at least 16 people dead and dozens more injured over Memorial Day weekend.
The gun violence occurred at beaches, high schools and motorcycle rallies, among other locations, across at least eight states. The victims were teenagers to people in their 60s.
