Virginia Jury Quickly Finds Felon Who Dragged Rookie Cop To Her Death Guilty Of Murder

Newport News, VA – The repeat felon who dragged 24-year-old Newport News Police Department (NNPD) Officer Katie Thyne to her death in 2020 was convicted of the young police officer’s murder late last week.

A Virginia jury deliberated for just two hours before convicting Vernon Green on charges of hit-and-run and second-degree murder on Nov. 17, WVEC reported.

“We wanted justice for Katie, and we got that today,” Officer Thyne’s aunt, Cassie Thyne-Fenlon, told the news outlet. “We feel a step closer to closure. It will always be a loss for us and nothing can take that away.”

At least seven dead after ‘manager’ opens fire in Virginia Walmart

Seven people died at a Walmart in Virginia on Tuesday night in a shooting rampage that an employee claimed was carried out by a store manager who then turned the gun on himself.

Officers responded about 10:15 p.m. to a report of a shooting at the Walmart on Sam’s Circle in Chesapeake, where they found multiple dead people and injured, police said.

The city said in a tweet at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday that there were seven fatalities, including the shooter.

Authorities believe there was one shooter, Chesapeake Officer Leo Kosinski told reporters earlier.

“It was wild. It was a manager – one of the managers,” an employee in a Walmart uniform said in a Facebook livestream, explaining that he narrowly avoided being killed in the rampage.

“He blew his brains out and everything. He killed the girl in there and everything. He came in and started spraying. I’m sorry for the victims,” he said.

Anderson Lee Aldrich: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Big angry nut with prior violent episodes.  Related to a conservative politician so this story will be around a while….for the wrong reasons. This was the act of a lone individual with a violent history and mental illness. This is a mental health issue……again.

Anderson Lee Aldrich is the 22-year-old suspect accused of perpetrating a mass shooting at Club Q, a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The November 19, 2022, attack left five dead and 25 injured.

The active-shooter burst into the nightclub with a long rifle and opened fire inside just before midnight, Colorado Springs Police Lieutenant Pamela Castro said in an early morning news conference on November 20. Aldrich was subdued by heroic patrons, who were credited with saving lives, Castro said. One disarmed Aldrich and beat him with the suspect’s own gun, according to NPR.

Heavy has confirmed that Aldrich is the grandson of outgoing Republican State Assemblymember Randy Voepel, the former mayor of Santee, California. Voepel represents the 71st district in the San Diego area. There were calls to expel Voepel from the state Assembly after he made comments comparing the January 6 attacks to the Revolutionary War. Aldrich’s mother, Laura Voepel, has written posts praising Randy Voepel on Facebook and confirming he is her father.

“This is Lexington and Concord. First shots fired against tyranny,” Randy Voepel, who was defeated in a Republican primary in August 2022, said in a San Diego Union-Tribune article three days after January 6. “Tyranny will follow in the aftermath of the Biden swear-in on January 20th.” According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Voepel “later tweeted that he condemned violence and lawlessness.” Voepel and his office did not immediately respond to requests for comments from Heavy.

The first two victims named were bartenders Derrick Rump and Daniel Aston, who were remembered in tributes for their kindness and vibrant personalities. You can read more about the victims here. The mass shooting occurred just before the Transgender Day of Remembrance; Aston identified as transgender.

Police: 5 dead and 18 injured in shooting at LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado

Club Q, where police said the first call came in minutes before midnight, described it as a “hate attack.”

Lt. Pamela Castro, a police spokesperson, told reporters the suspect was injured, in custody and receiving treatment at a hospital. She declined to comment on a motive and said the FBI was assisting in the investigation.

“We thank the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack,” Club Q said in a statement on its Facebook page, which had posted hours earlier that it was planning a drag brunch to celebrate Transgender Day of Remembrance on Sunday.
