The NYPD Stakeout Squad

A New York Magazine article from 1972 about the astounding success of NYPD’s “stakeout squad.” At the time, NYC was experiencing a rash of corner store robberies where store clerks were killed by the robbers. NYPD responded by pulling all of the firearms instructors off the range and setting them up in these stores to ambush the robbers. They were very successful and killed a lot of bad guys.

If you are unfamiliar with this period of history, you owe it to yourself to read the article. If you want even more information, check out the book Tales of the Stakeout Squad. It describes all the gunfights that legendary supercop Jim Cirillo found himself in while doing this work. Quite a bit of the lineage of certain modern day firearms techniques comes directly from Cirillo and his gang of cops in the stakeout squad.

VIDEO: LAPD Shoots Gunman Who Took Woman Hostage In Apartment During Crime Spree

Los Angeles, CA – A gunman who opened fire on a group of people, grazing a 14-year-old boy in the head, was fatally shot by police after he broke into a woman’s home and took her hostage on Friday night (video below).

Officers were able to see the suspect through a window as he held a gun to the hostage’s head, according to police.

A neighbor directly across from the apartment recorded the incident and posted the footage to Twitter.

“Based on the already incredibly violent actions & fearing the suspect was going to kill the hostage, SWAT entered the apartment,” the LAPD said.

Alamo, Georgia, police officer shot and killed was on his first shift, authorities say

26-year-old leaves behind wife, 6-month-old; Manhunt underway for suspected shooter

ALAMO, Ga. – A Georgia police officer shot in the line of duty early Saturday was working his first shift with the Alamo Police Department when he was shot and killed outside his Middle Georgia police station, authorities said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Officer Dylan Harrison, 26, was working his first shift as a part-time officer with the Alamo Police when he was shot around 1 a.m. The shooting happened in Wheeler County, about 90 miles southeast of Macon and about 124 miles west of Savannah.

At a Saturday afternoon news conference, GBI spokeswoman Natalie Ammons said Harrison was survived by his wife and their 6-month-old baby. Ammons said Harrison also worked full-time with the Oconee Drug Task Force in nearby Dodge County and had been in law enforcement since 2018. Authorities said a manhunt is underway for the suspected shooter, 43-year-old Damien Anthony Ferguson, who goes by “Luke.” A $17,500 reward is being offered for information leading to his capture.

VIDEO: Cop Saves Partner Moment Before She Would Have Been Hit By Out-Of-Control Car

Gate City, VA – Dashcam footage captured the moment when a quick-thinking Gate City police officer likely saved his partner’s life by pulling her out of the path of a reckless driver (video below).

The near-deadly incident occurred on U.S. Highway 23 at approximately 5 p.m. Oct. 3 as Gate City Police Department (GCPD) Officer Matthew Stewart and Officer Jessica McGraw were investigating a crash scene, GCPD Chief Justin Miller said in a press release on Wednesday.

Both officers were standing on the side of the highway near the passenger side of Officer McGraw’s parked patrol SUV when the driver of an oncoming white car lost control, blasted through the median, and slammed into the police vehicle, according to police

Officer Stewart, who was facing the roadway, saw the oncoming collision and grabbed onto Officer McGraw, yanking her away from the patrol SUV at the last possible moment, dashcam footage showed.

The force of the crash sent the police vehicle spinning into the exact spot where the two officers had just been standing.
