NYPD cop Troy Patterson was just 27 when he was ambushed by three armed robbers while washing his car in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Jan. 16, 1990. The shot detective remained in a coma until his death Saturday.
A hero NYPD detective who was shot over $20 while washing his car in Brooklyn in 1990 has died after spending more than three decades in a coma, law-enforcement sources told The Post on Sunday.
Officer Troy Patterson was just 27, newly engaged and off-duty when he was ambushed by three armed thugs looking for a few bucks outside PS 3 in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The then-six-year department veteran โ who had already racked up seven commendations for police work at the time โ was shot in the head with a .38-caliber pistol during the botched robbery.
The panicked suspects fled after the shooting, leaving Pattersonโs wallet at the scene.

The hero cop โ who had been washing his car at a fire hydrant three blocks from his home when shot โ remained in a vegetative state until he died Saturday night, sources said.
The three suspects โ Vincent Robbins, Tracey Clark and Darien Crawford โ were later arrested in the unprovoked shooting.
Robbins, now 53, was convicted of assault and attempted-robbery charges and sentenced to a prison term of five to 15 years. He was released in 2000, state records show.
Clark, the alleged gunman in the shooting, also went to trial in the case. The outcome of the case is not immediately available, nor are any details of the charges against Crawford.

James Comer (R-KY), the Chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, in an interview by Just the News, expressed concerns over the Justice Departmentโs ongoing criminal investigation being conducted for the purposes of covering for the first family and over witness intimidation by Democrats that could obstruct Comerโs investigation.
Representative Comer said that โThe Hunter Biden legal team โ theyโre testing the limits [when they send letters that have veiled threats to witnesses]. Iโll put it like that with respect to witness intimidation. I mean just look in my district. Weโve got dark money groups that are being funded through prominent high-ranking Democrat officials in Congress. Also, the communications director for the White House continues to retweet things trying to intimidate me for having the audacity to investigate.โ
โWeโve got witnesses that are scared to death to come forward. They fear for their lives,โ Mr. Comer relayed. โI mean, youโve got the banks that have worked with us, theyโre being squeezed by attorneys, by high-ranking officials in the Democrat Party for having the nerve to work with us to comply with our subpoenas.โ

Covenant School shooter Audrey Elizabeth Hale was a 28-year-old trans artist who once attended the school and had begun identifying as male
Nashville police confirmed they will release a manifesto they recovered from the car of Covenant School shooter Audrey Elizabeth Hale, a 28-year-old transgender former student who they say gunned down three 9-year-olds and three adults last month.
“The investigation has progressed to the point where the Covenant shooterโs writings are now being reviewed for public release,” the Metro Nashville Police Department told Fox News Digital. “This process is currently underway.”
A specific time frame for the release was not yet available, a police spokeswoman said.
Hale barged into the Christianย elementary schoolย on March 27 armed with three guns in what police have called a “calculated and planned” attack outlined in a document recovered from the killer’s car.

In this weekโs newsletter: Unrecord puts players in the role of a police officer, and looks every bit like real shootings โ so how realistic is too realistic?
It looks like footage from a news report. A cop approaches a graffiti-covered, seemingly abandoned building, the sound of his own footsteps and his uniform brushing the mic and disturbing the silence. Only 30 seconds in doesย the trailerย start to look more like a video game: the exaggerated gun reload, the way the cop effortlessly vaults a barrier. But at a passing glance โ even at close examination, on a phone screen โ it looks as if it could be real. Even when the cop shoots someone and they crumple immediately to the floor.
Unrecord, a โbodycam first-person shooterโ being created by French independent developer Drama, made an impact with its shockingly realistic trailer last week. It looks so close to reality because of the natural lighting, muffled sound and shaky camera movement, and the fact that itโs being made in Unreal Engine 5, the cutting edge of video game graphics. The internet is replete with YouTubers screaming in all-caps disbelief about how close it looks to reality, while others are claiming it looks too good to be genuine, and must be an elaborate feat of fakery. And still others have asked: do we really want games to look this alarmingly realistic? Especially when that game is a cop story, and weโve all seen more bodycam footage of real police shootings than any of us would like.
The conversation moved the developer to post a few clarifications on the gameโs Steam page. (Unrecord is very early in development, with no release date on the horizon.) Assuring readers that the game is, in fact, real โ โconsidering the high production costs of a video game and our global reputation at stake, if Unrecord were a scam, it would be a blockbuster scamโ โ the developer also attempts to assuage concerns about the gameโs content and its obvious potential to cause discomfort.
โAs a French studio addressing a global audience, the game does not engage in any foreign policy and is not inspired by any real-life events,โ it asserts, in a dispiriting echo of Ubisoft claiming that The Division 2, a game about how the US military responds to the collapse of government, was not political. โThe game will obviously avoid any undesirable topics such as discrimination, racism, violence against women and minorities. The game will have no biased or Manichaean take on criminal acts and police violence.โ
This is a good time to reiterate that games are political whether they want to be or not. Even Wordleย can be political. This is not a bad thing. Nobody is suggesting that cop games shouldnโt exist, only that they exist within the real-world context of police violence, and so players are inevitably going to bring their own interpretation to that.
