NYPD Officer Loses Hand, Another Loses Finger After Allegedly Playing With Fireworks On Duty

Queens, NY – Two New York Police Department (NYPD) officers were maimed early on Monday morning and two more officers suffered hearing-related injuries after one of the officers brought pyrotechnics to work with him.

One of the officer’s hands was almost completely blown off, according to the New York Post.

The incident occurred just before 3:45 a.m. on Sept. 27 in the Citi Field parking lot in Queens.

Sources said that one of the officers brought the fireworks with him to his shift, the New York Post reported.

The officers were working an overnight detail in the parking lot located at Northern Boulevard near the World’s Fair Marina, where NYPD parks the police cruisers used for patrols at the Mets’ stadium.

One officer lost a finger and another officer suffered severe wounds to his hand and eye, the New York Post reported.

Sources said the officer may lose his eye.

A picture obtained by the New York Post showed that one of the officer’s hand was missing multiple fingers and his palm was completely “mutilated.”
