Florence, AL – A search is underway for the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office’s (LCSO) assistant director of corrections and a murder suspect after they both went missing during a transport from the jail to the courthouse on Friday morning.

Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton announced Monday morning that a warrant has been issued for 56-year-old LCSO Assistant Director of Corrections Vicki White for first-degree permitting or facilitating an escape.

Assistant Director White was supposedly transporting 38-year-old capital murder suspect Casey White to the courthouse for a hearing at approximately 9:30 a.m. on April 29 when they both disappeared, the sheriff’s office said in a press release on the afternoon of April 29.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia Police say they fired at three men after witnessing a fatal drive-by shooting in the East Germantown on Sunday. The suspects were able to escape.

Police say two plainclothes officers were investigating an unrelated homicide in the 14th District when they saw three men inside a late-model dark silver Nissan SUV shoot a 31-year-old man 15 times. The man was pronounced dead at 8:02 p.m. at a local hospital, according to police.

Police say the officers discharged their weapons multiple times after the shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. at Baynton and Pastorius Streets. The officers weren’t injured during the incident

“It appears that the vehicle that the shooters were in was struck by gunfire,” Inspector D.F. Pace said. “It’s unclear at this time, however, if anyone in that vehicle was struck by gunfire from discharging police officers.”

No weapons were recovered, police say.

Tulsa, OK – The gunman convicted of shooting two Tulsa police officers in their heads, killing one and severely injuring the other, was sentenced to death on Wednesday.

A Tulsa County jury deliberated for just three hours before rendering the death sentence against 34-year-old David Ware on April 27, KOTV reported.

The jury could have alternatively sentenced Ware to life without the possibility of parole or life with the possibility of parole, according to Tulsa World.

Witnesses Subdue Suspect After California Officer Is Shot

Mission Valley, CA – A group of Good Samaritans rushed to the aid of a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer after he was shot while conducting a crash investigation on Wednesday night, according to police.

The attack occurred on Interstate 8 near Interstate 805 at approximately 6:15 p.m. on April 27, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

The eight-year CHP veteran was investigating a collision near the ramp connecting the two routes when he “became involved in a struggle with a pedestrian,” CHP Captain Michael Harris later told reporters outside the hospital.

The officer was shot once in the right thigh during the fight, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Capt. Harris said a single bullet was fired during the brawl, but that investigators are still working to determine whether the round came from the officer’s gun or if the suspect had his own weapon, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

A group of good Samaritans jumped in to help the wounded officer and were able to subdue the unidentified 25-year-old suspect until additional officers arrived at the scene, according to Capt. Harris.

One of the citizens who rushed to the officer’s aid said he used his own sweatshirt and the officer’s belt to help staunch the bleeding, KUSI reported. Full Story and video below
