Indianapolis, IN. – An Indianapolis police officer was shot five times after responding to a shooting on the city’s northwest side Saturday afternoon. She has been released from the hospital.
Authorities say IMPD officers went to the 6400 block of Kentstone Drive for a report of two people shot at around 3:50PM. Officers arrived and found two gunshot victims, one in critical condition. Officers provided first aid and each were transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Officers located a suspect and attempted to stop him, but he fled in a vehicle and a pursuit began. The pursuit terminated in the 1600 block of West 30th Street and an exchange of gunfire occurred between officers and the suspect. An unidentified female officers was shot five times during the gunfight. She was hit once in the vest below her body camera, twice in the right arm and twice in her left leg. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released.
The unidentified suspect was also shot during the exchange. He was transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition. The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene.
We hope for a speedy recovery of the injured officer.
