VIDEO: Cop Saves Partner Moment Before She Would Have Been Hit By Out-Of-Control Car

Gate City, VA – Dashcam footage captured the moment when a quick-thinking Gate City police officer likely saved his partner’s life by pulling her out of the path of a reckless driver (video below).

The near-deadly incident occurred on U.S. Highway 23 at approximately 5 p.m. Oct. 3 as Gate City Police Department (GCPD) Officer Matthew Stewart and Officer Jessica McGraw were investigating a crash scene, GCPD Chief Justin Miller said in a press release on Wednesday.

Both officers were standing on the side of the highway near the passenger side of Officer McGraw’s parked patrol SUV when the driver of an oncoming white car lost control, blasted through the median, and slammed into the police vehicle, according to police

Officer Stewart, who was facing the roadway, saw the oncoming collision and grabbed onto Officer McGraw, yanking her away from the patrol SUV at the last possible moment, dashcam footage showed.

The force of the crash sent the police vehicle spinning into the exact spot where the two officers had just been standing.

Kenosha Cop Who Shot Jacob Blake Cleared By DOJ, Won’t Face Federal Charges

Washington, DC – The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday announced it would not pursue federal civil rights charges against the Kenosha police officer who shot Jacob Blake.

The Blake family was notified of the decision by officials from the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, WITI reported.

DOJ said in a press release that its investigation had obtained insufficient evidence to prove Kenosha Police Officer Rusten Sheskey willfully used excessive force against Blake.

It said federal prosecutors had reviewed evidence obtained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and state investigators and determined that there wasn’t reason to believe that Officer Sheskey had acted with the deliberate and specific intent to deprive Blake of his constitutional rights, WITI reported.

“After a careful and thorough review, a team of experienced federal prosecutors determined that insufficient evidence exists to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the KPD officer willfully violated the federal criminal civil rights statutes,” the statement read.

The shooting occurred on Aug. 23, 2020 after Laquisha Booker, the mother of Blake’s children, called 911 and told them Blake “isn’t supposed to be there and he took the complainant’s keys and is refusing to give them back,” according to a statement from the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

Seattle May Fire 1/3 Of Depleted Police Force Due To Vaccine Mandate Noncompliance

Seattle, WA – The Seattle Police Department could potentially lose another third of its already-depleted force by the middle of the month due to the city’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

The City of Seattle adopted a mandate imposed by Washington Governor Jay Inslee which requires all healthcare workers and state employees to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 18 if they want to keep their jobs, KING reported.

In order to meet the deadline, employees needed to have received the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine or their second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine by Oct. 4 to qualify as being fully vaccinated by Oct. 18.

Employees who provided proof of their vaccination by Oct. 5 were also awarded with eight hours of paid leave, The Seattle Times reported.

But as of Oct. 5, as many as 33 percent of the SPD’s sworn employees had not submitted proof of vaccination, according to statistics released by the department.

That means the city could soon lose 354 sworn officers on top of the hundreds of officers who have left SPD since early last year.

“We are at record lows in the city right now,” SPD Chief Adrian Diaz told KING back in April. “I have about 1,080 deployable officers. This is the lowest I’ve seen our department.”

Chief Diaz sent out a letter to SPD staff on Oct. 1 imploring them to “get it done.”

Opinion

I wrote articles supporting social workers responding to 911 calls. I believe that cops can’t be all things to all people.

The pushback from the law enforcement community was immense. They thought I was suggesting that the funds should come from their budgets, which was impossible if cities were going to do it right.

Cops believed it wouldn’t be done correctly and that the public would be at greater risk.

Many believed that cities and states would do it on the cheap without attention to detail. They were right, at least in this instance.
