Deputy Jonathan Feller fired at Officer Donald Sahota multiple times on Jan. 29, 2022 within moments of responding to Sahotaโs Battle Ground home on the report of an armed robbery, mistaking Sahota for the robbery suspect.
The decision by Clark County Prosecuting Attorney Tony Golik not to charge Feller comes after a panel of five prosecuting attorneys from Washington deadlocked on the question of whether Fellerโs actions last year were reasonable under the circumstances.

WASHINGTON (AP) โ Far fewer U.S. police officers died while on the job in 2022 than a year earlier, due mostly to a drop in COVID-19 deaths, though the number killed by gunfire remained relatively high, according to a report released Wednesday.
Sixty-four of the 226 officers who died in the line of duty last year were fatally shot, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund said. That matched the death-by-gunfire tally from 2021, with the shooting death figures from both years reflecting an increase in the average annual fatality toll over the past decade and an indication of a disturbing trend, said Bill Alexander, executive director of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington.
โWe really do have some concerns about these numbers specific to firearms fatalities,โ Alexander said. From 2010 to 2020, by comparison, 53 officers on average were killed by gunfire each year.
The country has seen an overall rise in violent crime in recent years, especially from gun violence. The exact causes are hard to pinpoint, but experts say potential factors include the pandemic, which has killed more than 1 million people in the U.S., as well as civil unrest and fears about the economy.
The overall number of police deaths dropped in 2022 by 61% from an all-time high of 586 a year earlier, as reduced coronavirus infection rates and widespread availability of vaccines meant fewer officers died from COVID.
The organization tallies COVID-19 deaths from officers infected with the virus in the line of duty. The virus remained the No. 1 killer of police last year.
There was also an increase in fatalities related to vehicle crashes. Forty officers died in traffic crashes last year, an increase of nearly 30% from 2021.
Texas had the overall largest number of deaths in the line of duty with 33, followed by New York with 12. California and Georgia each had 11.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is a private nonprofit in Washington that built and maintains the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial monument, as well as a database of officer deaths dating to 1786. The data in its yearend reports come from federal, state, tribal and local law enforcement agencies.

A small Tennessee police station has been rocked by allegations of wild sexual misconduct, after a married female officer allegedly had steamy romps with six male officers, including illicit on-duty liaisons, according to reports.
Officer Maegan Hall, seen being sworn into the La Vergne Police department in 2021, was fired after an investigation revealed she had sex on-duty with other officers.
Officer Maegan Hall and her fellow law officers allegedly engaged in a wild sexcapades that included sending dirty pictures, taking her top off at a โGirls Gone Wildโ hot tub party, and even having oral sex with two officers at the La Vergne, Tenn., police station, WTVF TV reported.
The steamy shenanigans โ in which Hall allegedly bragged about the size of one partnerโs genitals and claimed to be in a โopen marriageโ โ not only led Hall to be canned, but led to the firings of Sergeant Lewis Powell, Officer Juan Lugo, Sergeant Ty McGowan and Detective Seneca Shields, according to a December internal investigation.
Detective Seneca Shields was also dismissed in connection with the investigation.
Two other officers who allegedly had romps with Hall โ Patrick Magliocco and Larry Holladay โ kept their jobs but wound up suspended, according to the reports.
The extracurricular trysts took place at hotels and parties at other officerโs houses and on a boat, Hall was also accused of performing oral sex on Powell and Shields while on duty at the police station and police gym, according to the Dec. 28 internal report.
Officials began to look into the swinging personal lives of the amorous officers when La Vergne Mayor Jason Cole received a tip that Hall was sleeping with several fellow cops and had a threesome with Magliocco and his wife, among other claims.
When asked about the tip, Magliocco admitted to having sex with Hall on โnumerous occasions,โ the report said.
He told investigators that Hall had told him about Powellโs โbig black dโk,โ and claimed she had performed a sex act on him while the pair were on the clock, the report said.
Magliocco also said that he had seen Hall and Holladay kiss while watching football at a party, and said Hall had kissed his own wife Amy after learning they had an โopen marriage,โ according to the document.
Sergeant Lewis Powell was fired after admitting to having a sexual encounter with Hall on the clock.
The officer said Hallโs husband saw the kiss and told officials the cuckold โreally wasnโt on boardโ with his wife having a threesome with the Maglioccos, but she continued having a relationship with him, investigators said.
When questioned, Powell later denied that he had a sexual encounter with Hall, but said โeverybody knows she has multiple partners,โ as he named Holladay and McGowan to investigators.
After being caught lying about being at the gym with Hall, Powell admitted to the tryst during a follow up interview, according to the report.
Powell was then involved in a domestic disturbance with his wife, who he told investigators โbeat the sโt out of me,โ adding that he โwould most likely lose his childrenโ after the spurned woman learned of the affair.
