On Monday, May 10th, over 120 retired military flag officers encouraged Americans to get more politically involved, and to act against the fact that many people in this country are believing in socialism and Marxism. They went on to say that this country is in “deep peril” and under “tremendous assault” by those believers.  

The retired officers wrote:

“Our Nation is in deep peril. We are in a fight for our survival as a Constitutional Republic like no other time since our founding in 1776. The conflict is between supporters of Socialism and Marxism vs. supporters of Constitutional freedom and liberty,” 

The officers went on to lambaste the 2020 election process and argued that election fairness would be destroyed and the Democrats will be allowed to remain in power forever if the Democrat House bill H.R. 1 and its Senate companion bill S. 1 are passed and put into effect.

The retired officers wrote:

“Without fair and honest elections that accurately reflect the ‘will of the people’ our Constitutional Republic is lost. Election integrity demands insuring there is one legal vote cast and counted per citizen.

Legal votes are identified by State Legislature’s approved controls using government IDs, verified signatures, etc.

“Today, many are calling such commonsense controls ‘racist’ in an attempt to avoid having fair and honest elections. Using racial terms to suppress proof of eligibility is itself a tyrannical intimidation tactic. Additionally, the ‘Rule of Law’ must be enforced in our election processes to ensure integrity.

The FBI and Supreme Court must act swiftly when election irregularities are surfaced and not ignore them as was done in 2020. Finally, H.R.1 & S.1, (if passed), would destroy election fairness and allow Democrats to forever remain in power violating our Constitution and ending our Representative Republic.”

Breitbart reported that they also slammed the Biden administration for acting in a “dictatorial manner” by bypassing Congress with more than 50 executive orders reversing Trump administration policies and blasted excessive lockdowns, school and business closures, and censorship of written and verbal expression as direct assaults on Americans’ fundamental rights.

The officers said:

“We must support and hold accountable politicians who will act to counter Socialism, Marxism and Progressivism, support our Constitutional Republic, and insist on fiscally responsible governing while focusing on all Americans, especially the middle class, not special interest or extremist groups which are used to divide us into warring factions.”

They also weighed in on national security issues from the southern border, China, and energy.

They said:

“Illegals are flooding our Country bringing high economic costs, crime, lowering wages, and illegal voting in some states. We must reestablish border controls and continue building the wall while supporting our dedicated border control personnel. Sovereign nations must have controlled borders,” 

The officers called China “the greatest external threat to America”. They went on to say that the Biden administration is establishing cooperative relations with the Chinese Communist Party, and by doing such, it is encouraging the Chinese Communist Party to continue progress toward world domination, militarily, economically, politically and technologically.

They wrote:

“We must impose more sanctions and restrictions to impede their world domination goal and protect America’s interests,” 

The officers also encouraged opening the Keystone Pipeline, and how it needs to regain energy independence

They discussed that topic, saying:

“Stopping the Keystone Pipeline eliminates our recently established energy independence and causes us to be energy dependent on nations not friendly to us, while eliminating valuable US jobs. We must open the Keystone Pipeline and regain our energy independence for national security and economic reasons,” 

They argued that the military should not be used as “political pawns” to protect the Capitol against a “non-existent threat,” and should not be forced to accept politically correct policies or critical race theory into the military at the expense of war fighting, Breitbart reported.

They wrote:

“We must support our Military and Vets; focus on war fighting, eliminate the corrosive infusion of Political Correctness into our military which damages morale and war fighting cohesion,” 

The officers went on to denounce the chaos that is plaguing the streets of this country since the death of George Floyd, and asked that Americans support law enforcement officers. 

According to reports, they insisted that district attorneys, courts, and the Justice Department enforce the law equally, fairly, and consistently toward all.

They also argued that the mental and physical condition of the Commander-in-Chief “cannot be ignored.”

The officers said:

“He must be able to quickly make accurate national security decisions involving life and limb anywhere, day or night,”

LaGrange, GA – The LaGrange Police Department has begun training its officers to “shoot to incapacitate” in response to activists’ calls for police reform.

The new policy being implemented by LaGrange Police Chief Louis Dekmar is the first of its kind in the United States, WGCL reported.

Chief Dekmar said that law enforcement officers have traditionally been taught to shoot for “center mass” – meaning chest, upper torso, and head, instead of shooting places that are less-likely to kill the suspect.

But the new “Shoot to Incapacitate” program that LaGrange police starting using in February calls for teaching officers to shoot below the torso, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

“It’s a responsibility, in my opinion, of any police leader to look at options for their police officers so that a deadly force encounter doesn’t necessarily end in a deadly result,” Chief Dekmar explained.

The course teaches officers that in some situations that would traditionally call for deadly force, they have the option to shoot for a suspect’s arms, pelvic region, and legs instead.

The concept behind the program is that shooting these other areas “could stop the threat while increasing the chance that the wounds will not be fatal,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Some firearms experts have said the “shoot to incapacitate” protocol isn’t just additional training to give officers more options and it requires a lot of work by police departments before implementation.

“It’s like another level of force,” retired Metro Transit Police Captain William Malone told The Police Tribune. “It’s inserting another level of force in between less-lethal and lethal force – it could be lethal force, or the guy could keep coming for you. You just won’t know til it happens and then it may be too late.”

Malone, who taught firearms for 20 years and served as commander of his department’s Special Response Team (SRT), said the added component of having to decide where to try to shoot the suspect so as not to possibly not kill them could delay some officers long enough to get them or other people killed.

“The chance that something ‘could’ stop an armed suspect isn’t enough,” he told The Police Tribune. “Just because you’re shot and fall down, that doesn’t mean you’re 100 percent incapacitated.”

“Plenty of times they go down and continue shooting, or they don’t go down at all and lunge at you or whoever they were going after because you shot them and now they’re even more enraged,” Malone said.

He said that a lot of things that sound good in the context of an activists’ police reform agenda aren’t practical for keeping officers safe.

The former firearms instructor pointed out that there’s no guarantee that a handgun is going to stop anybody immediately anyway.

“It’s already a crapshoot,” he said.

“There are only two ways guaranteed to stop a threat by shooting them – that’s to hit them in the central nervous system – the brain or spinal cord – or make them bleed enough and cause their blood pressure drop quickly so they lose consciousness,” Malone told The Police Tribune. “You’re not going to achieve that by telling officers to shoot for an arm or a leg.”

Chief Dekmar said he got the idea 17 years ago from a police exchange program with Israel, where he said officers are trained to shoot to only incapacitate as much as possible, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

He introduced the concept to his firearms trainers in 2019 and had them develop their own program since nothing like it existed in the United States.

This is not the first time Chief Dekmar, who served as president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) in 2017 and 2018, has made waves and been accused of caving to the mob, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

He was one of the first police chief in the South to publicly apologize for his agency’s role in the lynching of a black man more than 70 years earlier.

A line in Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson’s “Mammas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” warns: “Them that don’t know him won’t like him.” As a retired law-enforcement professional, it deeply saddens me to witness how my former profession suddenly finds itself in similar straits — reviled, the object of scorn and derision.

Dangerous tropes abound. False narratives proliferate. Bigotry and intolerance are suddenly acceptable, so long as the target wears a blue uniform.

I am also a father. I will not encourage my children to grow up to be cops.

As the nation braces for the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death, I sense nothing that gives me any hope that we will break the anti-cop fever any time soon.

Due process for police? Passé. Presumption of innocence? Police are guilty before they can be tried — guilty even before the clips of body-cam footage are posted.

Just ask LeBron James, who boasts almost 50 million Twitter followers: Even when a cop rightly used deadly force to prevent one 16-year-old girl, Ma’Khia Bryant, from stabbing another, he tweets that the officer should be held “accountable” and even the threat “You’re next.”

We have lost our collective capacity to view fatal police shootings through an objective prism. They all get lumped together, justified or not. The Floyd case put the entire nation on trial as indelibly racist. Yet the reckoning is itself based on a biased narrative.

Activists and armchair quarterbacks confidently assert what an officer’s actions should have been — long after the dust has settled and based merely on a sometimes misleading video clip.

Why would I want my children to join the ranks of a profession whose members continue to be spat upon, disrespected, taunted and baited by “reformers”? Where police brass are rendered impotent by politicians who have long since caved to the mobs, instructing officers to “de-escalate” in the face of violent rioters and agitators?

Even now, as I pursue a doctoral degree focused on police use of force, my research informs me that fatal shootings of unarmed black men are an anomaly. Yet you’d never know this from the amount of coverage these incidents receive.

Breathless reporting often begins with incomplete information. Once a correction, update or retraction arrives, it’s too late — the social-media mob has already framed the incident. Online anger then fuels take-to-the-streets hostilities.

It’s estimated that police have some 76 million interactions with civilians over the age of 16 annually. On average, police fatally shoot around 1,000 civilians per year, about one in every 76,000 interactions. The vast majority of those shot are armed with a weapon — placing a police officer in a position to kill or be killed.

Yes, a small handful of these shootings are of someone unarmed. In 2020, The Washington Post database “Fatal Encounters” identified 55 unarmed people who were killed by police. (Keep in mind that violently struggling with or attempting to disarm an arresting officer counts as “unarmed” if the suspect doesn’t actually possess a weapon of his own.)

Of those 55 deaths, 24 were white, 18 black and 8 Hispanic. Arguing that this shows fatal police shootings involve minorities at disproportionate rates based on their percentages in the population ignores the fact that groups do not offend at the same rates. When a group is responsible for a higher percentage of criminality, especially violent crime (as the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting indicates year after year), this forces more police-civilian interactions for that group and results in more fatalities.

But none of this matters to critics like LeBron James or even a supposed expert like former Labor Secretary Robert Reich, who last month cited the number of year-to-date fatal police shootings in a tweet, while adding: “The system is still getting away with murder.”

No, it’s the critics who are getting away with unfair, naïve or disingenuous attacks on police. And there’s no end in sight.

Encourage my children — or anyone else’s, for that matter — to take up a dangerous and thankless profession amid today’s anti-cop environment?

No, thanks. I’ll pass.

SATELLITE BEACH, FL – Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced that, unlike many states that are defunding police, Florida will be providing $1,000 bonus checks to every police officer, firefighter, paramedic, and emergency medical technician in the state.

Making the announcement from the Satellite Beach Police Department in Brevard County, Gov. DeSantis said:

“Some want to defund the police; we’re funding the police and then some, and that’s what we’re here today to say.”

In March, the governor proposed using money from Florida’s federal stimulus package to provide first responders with bonuses, saying they earned the financial boost with their work during the pandemic. The legislature agreed and passed the proposal.

At the press conference held Wednesday, DeSantis was joined by police officials from around the state who applauded the $1,000 bonuses.

DeSantis also commented on another piece of legislation passed in support of law enforcement. He applauded the state’s passage of the “Anti-Riot” Act, which places tougher penalties on protesters who engage in violent rallies.

He praised a provision in the “Anti-Riot” Act that prevents local governments from defunding police:

“There is a very strong provision in there that said, ‘We are not going to let local governments defund law enforcement.’

“We are going to make sure that at the state level, we protect our communities, and if you try to do it, we are going to fight back, and we are going to defend the people of this state.”

Nashville, TN – A Nashville police officer was shot in an ambush attack while responding to a false report of a shooting on Tuesday evening.

The incident began at approximately 6:10 p.m. on May 4, when the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department (NMPD) received a 911 call from a man who claimed his brother had just shot his mother, WKRN reported.

The caller said the gunman was still firing inside their home on Sugarloaf Drive, police said.

At least three NMPD officers responded to the scene.

When they knocked on the front door, the gunman flung the door open and started shooting at them, NMPD spokesperson Don Aaron said during a press conference later that night.

NMPD Officer Brian Sherman was shot in his upper left arm during the ambush, WKRN reported.

The officers did not return fire and the gunman retreated into the home, Aaron said.

He has since been identified as 22-year-old Salman Mohamed, the Associated Press reported.

Aaron said police attempted to negotiate with Mohamed, but he ultimately walked out of the house with a rifle and fatally shot himself in the head, according to WKRN.
